Farewell DeMach

Alright. If only to satisfy my need to bring this full circle. On March 8th of 2007 I launched the webcomic DeMach Chronicles on Comicgenesis. This was born of a desire to be creative and a burst of inspiration at the place where I was spending my time to keep busy (for sake of simplicity let's call it busy therapy).

For a while things looked good, I had a flow and process that seemed to be working. Plenty of morale support and I was still young enough in mind that I thought I could keep it up.

The process was rough. It would need adjusting and guidance. Possibly an entire rework, as I was drawing on A3 paper. The inking and scanning were also not optimal. In spite of that, I kept up a schedule (with major breaks between chapters) and seemed to get a handle on things. Even though it didn't escape my notice that by 2016 I had slowed down a lot. Nevertheless I kept at it. However no further updates would come, the process had sapped my creative inspiration, and the work space had become unpleasant. Sometime late in Spring of 2019 I had effectively given up.

Why bring this up now? Well, as of today I've severed my ties with the work therapy location and thus I no longer have access to the tools to make the comic. Effectively, DeMach Chronicles is now dead. All that's left is some unfinished pages a stack of story board sketches and all that time... wasted. Most of the blame lies with me, ultimately I'm the creator, I should've changed my process, definitely not be stuck in that workplace to work on it.

Story-wise I did have an ending planned for DeMach, solving the mystery, beating the antagonist and returning home a legend. The usual adventure ending. At one point I even had sequels plotted out to a degree. That's all gone now.

So what's next? Well, I figure my creative strength isn't in drawing things. Something that's still on display in the thumbnails for my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@LurkingLion) and with much encouragement from CaptFox, whom I co-authored a book with I'm getting back into writing. Hopefully I'll have more energy to pour into that interest going forward.

Farewell DeMach, you were my special interest once, rest forever online while the comicgenesis site remains turned on.
